D\u2019o\u00f9 la prolif\u00e9ration d\u2019hypoth\u00e8ses pour tenter de cerner ces processus souvent <a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/a\/a_08\/a_08_p\/a_08_p_dep\/a_08_p_dep.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">multifactoriels <\/span><\/a>. Dans le cas de <a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/d\/d_08\/d_08_p\/d_08_p_dep\/d_08_p_dep.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">la d\u00e9pression<\/span><\/a> par exemple, l\u2019une des plus connues est la th\u00e9orie monoaminergique associ\u00e9e \u00e0 <a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/d\/d_08\/d_08_m\/d_08_m_dep\/d_08_m_dep.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">une baisse de certains neurotransmetteurs comme la s\u00e9rotonine<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Toujours pour la d\u00e9pression, une hypoth\u00e8se plus r\u00e9cente sur laquelle travaillent plusieurs laboratoires implique un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 <a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/capsules\/histoire_bleu05.html\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">confirm\u00e9 vers la fin des ann\u00e9es 1990 chez l\u2019humain <\/span><\/a>: la neurogen\u00e8se, ou naissance de nouveaux neurones dans le cerveau adulte. Le fait que ces jeunes neurones semblent montrer une grande plasticit\u00e9 et qu\u2019ils ne se retrouvent que dans certaines r\u00e9gions du cerveau, comme <a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/a\/a_07\/a_07_cl\/a_07_cl_tra\/a_07_cl_tra.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">le gyrus dentel\u00e9 de l\u2019hippocampe <\/span><\/a>associ\u00e9 aux \u00e9motions, est le point de d\u00e9part de cette hypoth\u00e8se.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On a pu d\u00e9montrer par exemple que le stress, qui est un facteur aggravant de la d\u00e9pression, diminue \u00e9galement la neurogen\u00e8se dans l\u2019hippocampe. Ou encore <a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/d\/d_08\/d_08_m\/d_08_m_dep\/d_08_m_dep.html#2\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">les antid\u00e9presseurs<\/span><\/a>, qui am\u00e9liorent souvent les sympt\u00f4mes de la d\u00e9pression, <a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/i\/i_08\/i_08_cl\/i_08_cl_dep\/i_08_cl_dep.html\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">augmentent aussi la neurogen\u00e8se<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 M\u00eame le temps d\u2019action relativement long des antid\u00e9presseurs (autour de 3 \u00e0 6 semaines)<a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/d\/d_08\/d_08_cl\/d_08_cl_dep\/d_08_cl_dep.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"> refl\u00e8te le temps de maturation des neurones fonctionnels issus de la neurogen\u00e8se.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Il y a ainsi <a href=\"http:\/\/lecerveau.mcgill.ca\/flash\/a\/a_08\/a_08_cl\/a_08_cl_dep\/a_08_cl_dep.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">de nombreux ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes qui convergent <\/span><\/a>pour appuyer l\u2019id\u00e9e qu\u2019une diminution du taux de neurogen\u00e8se dans l\u2019hippocampe contribuerait \u00e0 accentuer les sympt\u00f4mes de la d\u00e9pression, du moins ses sympt\u00f4mes cognitifs.
